I started the Editorial Board to provide some light in the darkness. Now Trump’s indicted

On this rainy day in New England, I’m looking back at the moment I started the Editorial Board. It was summer 2018. We were coming up on Donald Trump’s first midterm. So much was uncertain. So much was unknown. I hoped to provide some light in the darkness.

Here we are, years later, and the man I always and deliberately refer to as “the criminal former president” has been indicted on the dumbest of charges — he didn’t want to spend his own money paying Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their pay-for-sex relationship. So he charged the bribe to his campaign.

That’s a crime.

It’s probably the most insignificant crime in a lifetime’s worth of crimes.

But there are no promises in life.

Let’s be grateful for what we have.

Since the beginning the Editorial Board has been about politics in plain English for normal people and the common good. I’m asking today for support of our work here at the Editorial Board.

You’ve been on my free list for some time now. That’s good. That’s how I wanted things. But this work isn’t free to produce. It has a value. We can’t do this work without your support.

For $6 a month, for less than coffee every week, you get my writing sent to your inbox every day, plus another edition later that day by one of our amazing writers, including Mia Brett, Lindsay Beyerstein, Rod Graham and our newest member Allison Wiltz.

Even better, you can subscribe for the year to save 17 percent off the monthly rate.

That’s a good deal for you – and for the common good.

Thank you! –JS
