I finally caught the covid

Please be patient while I recover and get back to work.

As some of you know, I tested positive for the covid this week. It’s the first time I caught the pandemic virus in all the time that we have been talking about it. My doctor has ordered me to take Paxlovid, and since Wednesday afternoon, the worst I have experienced is extreme fatigue and extreme inability to focus. Just writing these words is taking some effort. That’s why I haven’t published anything since Monday, which is why I’m writing to you, my subscribers. I owe you an explanation.

Since I began publishing the Editorial Board, I have been blessed with good health. Aside from a cold or flu symptom here and there, little has kept me from rising every day to make sense of politics. But this time has been different. I’m going to rest this weekend, sleep as much as I can, drink as much water as I can. Then I’m going to try getting back to it. Please be patient while I do, and I hope you’ll stick with me. Publishing this newsletter really is the best job in the world in large part because of the wonderful community that has grown around it.

(PS: I know that at least a few of my subscribers have already experienced the covid, some more than once! If you have any wisdom to share, please reply to this message. THANK YOU!!!)

John Stoehr is the editor of the Editorial Board. He writes the daily edition. Find him @johnastoehr.
