I think some Democrats are right to be worried about the prospect of Graham Platner failing to defeat Susan Collins in Maine. But I also think his supporters make a good point: Lots of Mainers may not care about all his baggage. In any case, however, that race may not be as pivotal to the Democratic chances of taking control of the Senate. Some pollsters think there's a path to victory without Platner. That's just how unpopular Donald Trump is.

CNN's Harry Enten put more oomph in his assessment (and he puts too much emphasis on predictions markets but): "Even without Maine, Democrats have a clear path to a Senate majority. Polling shows them tied or slightly ahead in Ohio and Texas. Odds are in their favor in Alaska and North Carolina (big time). The map is wide thanks to Trump's unpopularity."

So the question I want to ask you is this: if the Democrats take the House and the Senate, what do you want to see from them? What immediately springs to mind? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section or send them to me directly by replying to this email.

Think big. Think bold.

What do you want to see?

As long as I have your attention

I started the Editorial Board almost eight years ago, because I was frustrated. Existing commentary seemed to talk over people's heads while looking over and under the truth. I felt like there was a need for politics in plain English for normal people and our shared morality.

The mission hasn't changed. Nearly every weekday, I do the best I can to make sense of things so caring people can understand what's going on and take action. It takes dedication, know-how and hard work, but I think it's worth it – and I hope you do too. Subscribed today for just $9 a month. Not sure if you're subscribing? Check your status below. Thank you!

If you're already subscribing, please consider a tip. All tips go to paying next month's rent! Say $10? THANKS!
