I need your help. Donald Trump and the Republicans have repealed the federal subsidies that made health insurance affordable to me here in Connecticut. As a consequence, I face a dire choice in the coming months: pay unsustainable monthly premiums or go without.

As I have reported previously, I am not alone in this. Tens of millions of people who buy their health insurance through their state exchanges (Obamacare) face the same choice. My premium is likely to double. Others will see theirs triple or even quadruple, depending on need.

“Millions will be priced out of being able to afford coverage at all,” Charles Gaba told me, “while most of the rest will have to either eat the higher premiums, downgrade to a lower-quality plan with higher deductibles, higher copays, a worse provider network or all of the above. Or they’ll have to move to non-ACA coverage via so-called ‘junk plans,’ which have few if any of the protections required by ACA plans.”

Despite this, I am fortunate. While most people can’t work more than they already do, I can sell more subscriptions. Indeed, to overcome this obstacle, I need about 100 new subscribers. That won’t cover all of my health insurance costs, but it will probably cover the deficit. And I am happy to report that since two weekends ago, after my first plea, 49 new subscribers joined the Board! Only 51 more to go!
