The coming explosion in health insurance premiums is finally getting some mainstream attention. That’s thanks to the Democrats. They are demanding that Obamacare subsidies expanded during the pandemic be renewed in exchange for support in keeping the government open.

What happens next will affect me personally. I buy health insurance through my state’s Obamacare exchange. If the Republicans balk at the Democrats’ demands, I can expect my monthly premium to double. As Charles Gaba said in an interview with me, I’m not going to be alone. There are about 24 million people in the same boat. I’ll be one of the lucky ones, though. Others could see theirs triple or quadruple.

Will the Democrats succeed? Will the GOP renew the subsidies?

I don’t know, but to be honest, I’m not going to wait around. For one thing, I don’t trust the GOP. For another, I’m fortunate. While most people can’t work more than they do, I can sell more subscriptions.

Indeed, to overcome this obstacle, I figure I need to reach about 100 new subscribers. That won’t cover all of my annual health insurance expenses, but it will come close to covering the deficit. Moreover, I am happy to report that, since I began this campaign about a month ago, 69 new subscribers have joined the Board! Only 31 more to go!
