I buy my health insurance through Connecticut’s health care exchange. This picture is taken from my monthly statement. That sentence explains what my bill would be if not for the subsidies that were expanded during the covid pandemic under the Inflation Reduction Act. That “Advance Premium Tax Credit” is what everyone’s talking about. If the Republicans don’t renew it, my bill will double.

At least. Then there’s the fact that health care is already rising in cost. And then there’s another fact: As more people leave Obamacare, because it costs too much, those of us who remain will pay even more. I will pay double, but then again, I could end up paying a lot more.

I’m one of the 24 million Americans soon to face a dire choice: pay unsustainable health insurance premiums or go without. It’s a dire choice, but I’m lucky. While others can’t work more than they do, I can sell more subscriptions, I figure I need to reach about 100 new subscribers.
